To mark the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Volunteers’ participation in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, on October 21, Wang Qingfeng, Party Secretary and Vice President of our institute, led a delegation to visit and extend condolences to veteran soldiers who fought in that war at the Taian Institute’s residential area, paying them profound respects.
Chang Shuxing, now 90 years old, enlisted in November 1950 and went to Korea to fight. He was discharged in April 1956. During the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, he took part in numerous battles and endured life-and-death trials. “Old Man Chang, how are you doing? We’ve come to see you… It’s been 70 years since the war—our respects to you!” Wang Qingfeng visited the home of veteran Chang Shuxing, firmly grasping the elder’s hand and carefully inquiring about his daily life and health. Recalling those unforgettable days of the war, Old Man Chang seemed transported back to that era. “Under the strong leadership of the Party,” he said, “we must grow ever stronger. Only when the country is strong and our armed forces are mighty can the people’s happy lives be truly secured—and only then will they continue to improve.” At the home of another veteran, Zeng Zhaolong, Wang Qingfeng remarked, “You are not just a veteran—you are a true hero. The combat record of the 50th Army is etched in history and deserves to be remembered. The Party and the state will never forget meritorious figures like you. Please take good care of yourself.” Moved by these words, the elderly man proudly produced newspaper articles from back then that chronicled his wartime exploits, passionately recounting the heroic deeds of yesteryear.
The stories of the two elderly veterans deeply moved everyone and inspired them to keep firmly in mind the glorious history of resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea and defending our country, to carry forward and promote the red gene of that era, to cherish today’s happy life, to study diligently and work enthusiastically, to remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind, to uphold the revolutionary spirit of our forebears, to further strengthen our Party‑spirit cultivation and foster a spirit of dedication, and to live up to the earnest expectations of our revolutionary predecessors, thereby continuing to contribute to elevating all aspects of our institute to new heights.
Chen Haiying, Director of the Party and Mass Work Department (Party Committee Office) of our institute, Gao Dong, Director of the Logistics Service Center, along with relevant colleagues from the Party and Mass Work Department, attended the慰问 event and presented condolence gifts to the veteran soldiers.
