The spring breeze brings warmth, and all things flourish. On March 31, our institute visited Dahe School in Daiyue District, Tai’an City, to launch a “Geology Science Education in the Classroom” initiative and an charitable donation drive. By bringing expert geological outreach and valuable educational resources directly to the students, we fulfilled our responsibilities as a central state‑owned enterprise, helping to enhance young people’s scientific literacy, while strengthening the bonds of collaboration between the school and the local community.
Dahé School was founded in 1981 through the joint efforts of our institute’s predecessor, the former Potash Geology Brigade of the Ministry of Chemical Industry, the Tai’an Cotton Textile and Knitting Factory, and the Second Division of China Railway No. 14 Bureau. From its very inception, it has been closely linked to the cause of geology. At the outset of the event, the two sides held a symposium in Dahé School’s conference room, jointly reflecting on this historical bond marked by warmth and a sense of responsibility. Yang Chuan-kui, Party Secretary and Principal of Dahé School, extended a warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to the delegation from our institute, noting that this renewed collaboration to promote science education… The classroom‑based initiative and charitable donation event not only carry forward and deepen the longstanding ties between the university and the local community, but also serve as a concrete implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important assertion that “science communication is just as vital as scientific and technological innovation,” thereby establishing a new platform for university–local cooperation and ushering in a fresh chapter.
Our institute stated that Sinochem Shandong Institute has been rooted in the Qilu region for more than fifty years, consistently regarding the safeguarding of national energy and resource security as its core mission. Upholding the responsibilities of a central state-owned enterprise, it actively fulfills its social obligations and contributes to local development. It hopes to use geological science popularization as a bridge to further strengthen collaboration between the university and the local community, nurture enduring ties, and inspire more young people to embrace earth sciences and develop a passion for natural sciences—sowing in their hearts the seeds of curiosity about the unknown and a spirit of striving for excellence.
Following the symposium, our institute presented Dahe School with geological science‑popularization books, mineral specimens, educational materials, and other items—gifts imbued with the heartfelt support of the geoscience community—providing robust backing for the school’s science education initiatives. Subsequently, the “Geological Science in the Classroom” program got off to a lively start. Li Yinzhen, Chief Engineer of our institute, took to the classroom, delivering a content‑rich lesson on geological science using clear, engaging language and vivid, real‑world examples. Beginning with everyday geological phenomena, she explained Earth science concepts in an accessible manner, highlighted the critical importance of protecting mineral resources, and encouraged students to embrace the principle of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. The students listened attentively, actively participated, and, through playful exploration, discovered the unique allure of geoscience, embarking on a fascinating journey to uncover the mysteries of our planet.
This event represents a concrete step taken by our institute to consolidate the outcomes of in-depth study and education and to deliver tangible benefits to the public. It also serves as a pragmatic measure to meet the new‑era requirements for science education in primary and secondary schools, deepen university–local collaboration, and support the effective implementation of the “double reduction” policy. Moving forward, our institute will continue to leverage its professional and technical strengths, pool additional specialized resources, and expand the reach of science communication, enabling more young people to engage with geology, gain a deeper understanding of it, and develop a passion for the field. In doing so, we will contribute the strength of a central state‑owned enterprise to enhancing the scientific literacy of youth and advancing both the cause of science popularization and the development of the geological sciences.
