The China National Bureau of Coal Geology has launched a major campaign to explore mineral resources in Xinjiang, along with a large-scale support initiative by the Sinochem Group, in Kashgar.
On May 17, the China National Bureau of Coal Geology held in Kashgar, Xinjiang, the launch ceremony for the intensive campaign to explore mineral resources in support of Xinjiang and the broader “Great Battle” initiative led by the Bureau. During the meeting, participants collectively studied the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches and key instructions on work related to Xinjiang. Leaders from the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, along with representatives from local government departments, partner universities, research institutes, and enterprises, attended the event upon invitation. Jia Chunqu, Party Secretary of the Bureau and First Political Commissar of the Dadi Specialized Geological Exploration Team of the National Mine Emergency Rescue Service, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Ju Yitai and Wu Yuebiao, members of the Bureau’s Party Committee and Deputy Directors, also took part in the launch event.
Implementing mineral exploration support for Xinjiang is a concrete measure taken by the Party Committee of the General Administration to thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches and key instructions on Xinjiang work, fully and accurately apply the Party’s governance strategy for Xinjiang in the new era, and carry out the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council’s “Prosperity through Industry in Xinjiang” initiative. Since the latter part of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the General Administration has begun to strategically plan its mineral‑exploration assistance efforts in Xinjiang, holding in-depth talks with leading officials of the autonomous region and the Production and Construction Corps on advancing this work, and convening four consecutive special meetings to promote mineral‑exploration initiatives in Xinjiang. The launch meeting for this critical campaign aims to translate the outcomes of those discussions into concrete actions, establish appropriate organizational mechanisms, formulate specific measures, and ensure that Xinjiang‑related mineral exploration yields tangible results.
In his address, Jia Chunqu emphasized that the Administration must resolutely implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the celebration marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as well as his key remarks on national energy security. It should earnestly carry out the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council’s “Prospering Xinjiang through Industry” initiative, positioning Xinjiang as the primary battleground for breakthroughs in mineral exploration and for cultivating a “second growth curve,” while winning the six major campaigns. Specifically, it must focus on its core business and wage a decisive battle in mineral resource exploration; leverage digital and intelligent technologies to drive innovation and empower progress; strengthen safety measures to safeguard emergency response and rescue operations; pursue green development to sustain long-term ecological conservation; advance deep‑earth geothermal resource development as a pioneering effort; and harness capital to promote efficient resource allocation through coordinated efforts.
Yang Bin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Kunming University of Science and Technology; Tang Zhengguo, a first‑level inspector with the Department of Geological Exploration of the Ministry of Natural Resources; Gao Yongyan, a member of the Party Leadership Group and deputy director of the General Office of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region; and Nigati Niyaz, deputy secretary of the Kashgar Prefectural Party Committee and commissioner of the Administrative Office, among other leaders and experts, delivered remarks, expressing their full support for the Administration’s work in Xinjiang and pledging to jointly forge a new pattern of aid‑Xinjiang cooperation characterized by central‑local coordination and multi‑stakeholder synergy, thereby helping to transform Xinjiang’s resource advantages into developmental strengths.
During the conference, unveiling ceremonies were held for the General Bureau’s Xinjiang Mining Assistance Office, the China National Chemical Geological Bureau’s Xinjiang Mining Campaign Steering Committee, and the China National Chemical Geological Bureau’s Institute of Chemical Geology. The China National Chemical Geological Bureau also signed strategic agreements with Xinjiang Zhongxin Jian Energy & Mining Group, Xinjiang Institute of Engineering, and the National–Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Geographic Information Systems. The conference announced the “Action Plan for the ‘Xinjiang Mining Assistance Campaign’” of the China National Coal Geological Bureau, and Chen Xinhuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the China National Chemical Geological Bureau, delivered a statement.
Going forward, the General Administration will prioritize mineral exploration, deploy targeted efforts, and advance the initiatives of “geology serving the nation” and “industrial support for Xinjiang,” thereby contributing to national energy and resource security and to the development of a beautiful Xinjiang.
