Unit Overview

Shandong Geological Exploration Institute of China Chemical Geology And Mining Bureau (hereinafter referred to as “China Chemical Shandong Institute”) was founded in 1972. It is affiliated with the China National Coal Geological Bureau, which is under the supervision of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, and is a state-owned geological exploration unit at the deputy-bureau level with independent legal person status. The institute’s headquarters is located in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, and it has two operational areas in Jinan and Tai’an.

The company currently employs over 350 staff members, including more than 230 professional and technical personnel, accounting for 66% of the workforce. Among them, over 170 hold intermediate, senior, or higher-level technical titles, and more than 30 are registered professionals. The company holds ten Class-A qualifications covering regional geological surveys, liquid mineral exploration, solid mineral exploration, hydrogeological and environmental geological surveys, geochemical exploration, geological drilling, geotechnical investigation, surveying and mapping, as well as geological hazard assessment and remediation engineering—encompassing investigation, design, construction, and supervision. It also possesses a Grade‑I specialized contracting license for waterproofing, anti-corrosion, and thermal insulation projects, and a Grade‑II specialized contracting license for foundation and groundwork engineering. Furthermore, the company has been awarded an AAA corporate credit rating and certified under three major management systems. Its laboratory has passed national metrological accreditation, and it has been recognized as a Level‑II standardized safety production unit, a member of the China Mining Association’s Red List for geological exploration credibility, a trustworthy entity in geological work by the Geological Society of China, and a model civilized unit directly under the Shandong Provincial Government.

Since its establishment, generation after generation of Sinochem Shandong Geological personnel, driven by a passionate commitment to serving the nation through geology, have “taken root in Shandong, reached across China, and expanded globally.” They have advanced alongside the country’s development, leaving their mark in more than 20 provinces and autonomous regions within China and in nearly 30 countries overseas, making outstanding contributions to safeguarding national mineral resource security and supporting ecological civilization.

The organization has undertaken more than 350 mineral exploration projects, identified over 60 mineral occurrences and more than 30 medium- to large-scale deposits spanning over 20 mineral types, and carried out thousands of socio‑economic service projects in hydrogeology, engineering geology, agricultural geology, and environmental geology. It boasts extensive experience in iron ore, gold ore, and non‑ferrous polymetallic ores; rock salt, potash, phosphate, limestone, bentonite, fluorite, and other non‑metallic minerals; as well as unconventional energy resources such as geothermal and shallow ground‑source heat. All the discovered deposits have been successfully developed and utilized, yielding significant economic and social benefits.

After 50 years of pioneering development, Sinochem Shandong Institute has built a highly capable and cohesive team of professionals and established industry‑leading technical expertise. Over the years, more than a hundred projects have received national‑ and provincial‑level awards, while numerous teams and individuals have been recognized by higher authorities. Leveraging major mineral resources such as the Lanling Extra‑Large Iron Mine and the Qihe–Yucheng High‑Iron Ore Deposit, the institute has developed a comprehensive suite of deep‑mining exploration technologies. Its proprietary technologies—including fiber‑optic gyroscopic inclination‑measurement and positioning, directional well‑to‑well docking, and heavy‑metal contamination assessment in riverbed sediments—are among the most advanced in China.

Sinochem Shandong Institute maintains a global outlook and actively implements the national “Going Global” strategy. Over the past two decades, it has undertaken nearly 20 overseas risk‑exploration fund projects and collaborated with leading enterprises such as PetroChina, China National Machinery Industry Corporation, China National Agricultural Development Group, and Shandong High-Speed. The institute has carried out close to one hundred international social‑geology projects—including resource exploration, engineering surveys, mapping, and well construction—in nearly 20 countries and regions across Africa, South America, Southeast Asia, and beyond, thereby amassing extensive experience in overseas geological work. In Laos and Ecuador, it has conducted continuous geological operations for more than ten years, securing a prominent position in the market for mine‑water control in Laos.

As China enters a new era, Sinochem Shandong Institute has aligned itself with national strategies and market demands, actively embracing the philosophy that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.” The institute has restructured its industrial portfolio, pursued transformative growth, and established a core development framework of “1231,” shaping an industry landscape centered on three major pillars: geological exploration and mineral development, geological environment and ecological restoration, and geological engineering and technical services. While focusing on its core business and expanding into the exploration and development of new‑energy mineral resources such as geothermal and shallow‑ground thermal energy, it has also proactively entered emerging fields—including soil, river, and groundwater pollution investigation, assessment, remediation, and monitoring, as well as subsidence surveys and integrated management of mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes, and grasslands—while strengthening full‑life‑cycle services for mining operations. In the realm of geological engineering and technical services, in addition to undertaking traditional civil‑engineering and construction‑related survey projects, the institute has intensified its support for the new‑energy sector and environmental‑remediation initiatives, thereby fulfilling the mission and responsibilities of a central state‑owned enterprise within the broader “grand geology” domain.
