Our bureau’s Youth League Committee successfully held a charitable scholarship ceremony in Shoushan Village, Zhaotong City.

On December 17, a three-member team from our bureau’s Youth League Committee, representing its charitable education initiative, set off for the mountain city, carrying with them heartfelt care for the children of Shoushan Village and Maliuwan Community in Shoushan Town, Daguan County, Zhaotong City.
Shoushan Village and Maliuwan Community are nestled in the mountainous region of Shoushan Town, more than half an hour’s drive along a rugged, winding mountain road from Daguan County’s county seat. This long, twisting path not only hinders communication between the mountains and the town but also seems to divide the area into two distinct worlds. Most of the children living here are left-behind children, and the village is also designated as a key poverty‑alleviation target in Yunnan Province.
Beginning in 2017, the Yunnan Institute responded to the local government’s call and dispatched its first team of employees to Shoushan Village to carry out poverty‑alleviation work stationed there. In 2018, the Yunnan Institute’s Youth League Committee launched a charitable education‑assistance initiative. With strong support and encouragement from the General Administration’s Youth League Committee, all units across the system actively organized donation campaigns, raising a total of RMB 159,472.28 in charitable contributions.
Based on prior field visits and surveys, financial aid was provided to high school students from Maliuwan Community and Shoushan Village who were admitted in 2020 to Daguan Fuxing Middle School, Yuntianhua, and Zhaotong No. 1 Middle School, as well as to students enrolled in junior colleges or higher‑level institutions. The charitable donations were earmarked for specific purposes and allocated exclusively to students from impoverished families in Shoushan Village and Maliuwan Community. Furthermore, all funds raised through this charitable scholarship program will be entrusted to the Shoushan Town Party Committee and Government for unified management and use, with a fund‑management team established by the Youth League Committee of the Yunnan Institute to oversee and audit the allocation and utilization of these donations.
At 10:00 a.m., the charitable donation ceremony officially commenced. The Shoushan Town Government extended its warmest welcome to the delegation of caring educators who traveled great distances to bring warmth, and expressed its sincerest gratitude for our bureau’s compassionate initiative. Song Hongbo, Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the Yunnan Institute, who attended the ceremony, conveyed the heartfelt concern and greetings of all our staff to the local children. Our bureau has consistently upheld its social responsibility and embraced its mission; supporting education is, in essence, investing in the nation’s future, and acts of charitable giving exemplify the fine virtues of the Chinese people.
A scattering of starlight illuminates the night and warms lives. In a world of love, we hope every child can grow up safe, healthy, and carefree; we also hope that the people in impoverished mountain regions can feel this humble yet heartfelt kindness. On the mountaintop of Shoushan Village, frost lingers year-round, yet this winter night has already grown a little warmer.
