To thoroughly implement the guiding principle of “grasping the contemporary essence of the Lei Feng spirit and enabling it to shine even more brightly in the new era,” and to enrich the extracurricular cultural life of young people while strengthening science education and fostering their capacity for scientific and technological innovation, on March 10, the Second Party Branch actively collaborated with Shandong University’s Furen School to organize a volunteer activity titled “Promoting the Lei Feng Spirit and Bringing Geological Science to Campus.”
During the event, volunteers leveraged their professional expertise and employed clear, accessible language to present students with a captivating audiovisual experience on the Earth’s internal structure, plate tectonics, landforms, and some of nature’s most remarkable geological wonders. The venue also showcased rock and mineral specimens—such as magnetite, lead–zinc ore, chalcopyrite, fluorite, and quartz—collected by our institute’s geologists in the field. By combining theoretical explanations with hands-on, up-close interactions, the session opened the door for students to explore the science of petrology. Throughout the lecture, students displayed keen interest, actively participated, and engaged in lively exchanges with instructors, sparking a deep enthusiasm for learning about Earth sciences.
The science‑education outreach program held on campus was warmly welcomed by both teachers and students. By learning to identify rocks and minerals, the children gained an understanding of basic mineralogy and developed a keen interest in the subject. This initiative not only provides young people with more opportunities to acquire scientific knowledge but also inspires them to appreciate the beauty of nature and to take action in protecting our planet. At the same time, it underscores Shandong Institute’s commitment as a centrally‑administered enterprise to fulfilling its social responsibilities, serving as a concrete demonstration of our efforts to carry forward the spirit of Lei Feng, advance the vision of ecological civilization, and promote new ideas for development.
