A delegation from Oman S.A.O.G paid a visit to our institute for an inspection and exchange.

On July 23–24, Haitham, a member of the Board of Directors of Oman Chrome Mining Company, along with Wang Kun, Chairman of Long Investment (Oman) Co., Ltd., paid a visit to our institute for an inspection and held discussions on cooperation in the exploration of the IBRI chromite deposit in Oman.

Party Secretary and President Wang Qingfeng extended a warm welcome to Haitham and his delegation, providing a detailed overview of the institute’s historical development, organizational structure, qualification accreditation, industrial deployment, and overseas project initiatives. In turn, Haitham expressed his gratitude for the institute’s meticulous arrangements and cordial hospitality, commended the series of geological achievements it has attained, and stated that he looks forward to leveraging this visit to deepen mutual understanding and jointly explore avenues for cooperation in future exploration efforts related to Oman’s chromite deposits.

At the symposium, Si Shuangyin, a geological expert from our institute, presented the findings of our on-site investigation of the IBRI chromite deposit in Oman, concluding that Oman holds significant exploration potential for chromite, copper, nickel, and other polymetallic resources. He also outlined the proposed next steps and specific plans for follow-up work. Meanwhile, Ji Shucheng, a geomatics and information specialist, along with relevant technical personnel, introduced the application of satellite remote-sensing technology in metallic mineral exploration, highlighting the Shandong Institute’s strengths in technical expertise, proven experience, and advanced equipment.

Abdulmonem, CEO of Oman Chrome Mining Company, and Eduardo, Manager of Geology and Exploration, successively presented the company’s pre‑registered mining rights and the status of its preliminary work. The two sides engaged in an in-depth exchange on satellite imagery acquisition, software analysis, satellite remote-sensing technologies, and their practical applications, and proceeded to study and discuss potential cooperation models for the next phase.

Wang Kun, Chairman of Long Investment (Oman) Co., Ltd., stated that Sinochem Shandong Institute attaches great importance to this collaboration and has established a dedicated project expert team, equipped with highly skilled technical personnel and state-of-the-art equipment. This provides robust support for the exploration of chromite deposits in Oman, demonstrating both capability and confidence, and meeting all prerequisites for cooperation. The three parties have reached a consensus on their intention to cooperate and look forward to promptly establishing a cooperative framework and further expanding areas of collaboration.

During the visit, the delegation also conducted an on-site inspection of the Yucheng Iron Ore Exploration Project undertaken by our Institute’s Mineral Exploration Branch. They examined core samples and gained firsthand insights into drilling operations and equipment, thereby directly appreciating the geological exploration expertise of Shandong Institute. The delegation expressed confidence in and recognition of the Institute’s technical capabilities and overseas exploration experience, while also voicing strong optimism and high expectations for future cooperation between the two parties in the exploration of chromite deposits in Oman.

Members of the Long Investment (Oman) Company team, leaders of our institute, and key project managers from overseas projects accompanied the inspection and participated in a symposium for exchange.

Earlier, the delegation also visited the China Chemical Geology And Mining Bureau, the administrative supervising authority of our institute, for an inspection and exchange.
