The “5G+Smart Mine” Forum was held in Beijing.


  The “5G+Smart Mine” Forum, co-hosted by the News and Publicity Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Smart Mine Working Committee of the China Mining Association, and organized by Sanjiang United International Exhibition (Beijing) Co., Ltd., was held in Beijing today. Participants engaged in discussions on topics including technologies and applications of smart mine cloud service platforms, the development of new information‑based and intelligent technologies, processes, and equipment—both domestically and internationally—and the application of cutting‑edge technologies such as informationization, intelligence, and integration in underground mining.

  Shao Daoxin, Deputy Director of the Information and Communications Administration of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, attended the forum and delivered a speech. He stated that, over the past three-plus years since the implementation of the Industrial Internet Innovation and Development Strategy, China’s industrial‑internet ecosystem has continued to expand, increasingly serving as a key driving force behind the digital, intelligent, and networked transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing sector. To date, more than 800 “5G + Industrial Internet” projects have been launched nationwide, with the number expected to exceed 1,500 by year’s end. A development trend characterized by integrated innovation, mutual reinforcement, and synergistic amplification is taking shape. “5G + Smart Mining” stands as one of the most representative—and among the most impactful—application scenarios of the “5G + Industrial Internet.”

  Peng Qiming, President of the China Mining Association, stated that adopting highly engineered technologies and integrating emerging key technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and big data to achieve digital connectivity and optimize operations across all facets represents a new trend in the innovation and development of mining technology. Recently, progress in 5G‑enabled smart mine construction has continued to yield encouraging results, with stakeholders from all sectors looking ahead and exploring ways to realize safer, smarter, more automated, and unmanned mining practices.

  Academician He Manchao of the Chinese Academy of Sciences stated that coal is a strategic pillar energy source for China. Traditional coal-mining methods face significant challenges, including substantial resource losses, extensive roadway excavation with high costs, and the fact that the vast majority of safety accidents occur in retreat mining roadways, leading to ecological damage. To address these issues, it is necessary to leverage new technologies such as 5G to upgrade conventional practices, enabling intelligent control across the entire mine, automated coal extraction, and data-driven decision-making.

  Economist Shi Wei argues that 5G‑enabled smart mines represent a hallmark of new productive forces. 5G‑powered intelligent surveying can drive the application and innovation of recognition technologies, sensor systems, and VR; meanwhile, 5G‑based intelligent mining facilitates the deployment of advanced technologies for deep‑level exploration and early warning and prediction of geological changes. The top‑level design of 5G‑enabled smart mines must integrate data‑collection and identification workflows, establish seamless interfaces between smart equipment and production processes, and align network coverage with operational requirements.

  Following the opening ceremony and keynote addresses, the forum featured the “Seminar on Building World-Class Mines,” the “High-Level Forum on Smart Mine Development,” as well as the following parallel sessions: “Sub‑Forum I: Smart Manufacturing for Future Mines—Driving Innovation through Technology,” “Sub‑Forum II: Application of New Technologies and Concepts in 5G‑Enabled Future Mines,” a “Salon on New Concepts and Solutions for Future Mine Development,” and the “Inaugural Ceremony of the Future Mine Industry Collaboration Platform and Strategic Signing Ceremony.”
