Promoting Comprehensive Resource Utilization to Support the Building of a Beautiful Planet—Jiao Sen Attended the China National Bureau of Coal Geology’s Symposium on Geological Support Technologies for “Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality” and Delivered a Keynote Address.

On March 25, the China National Bureau of Coal Geology convened a seminar on geological support technologies for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality in Beijing. Jiao Sen, Chief Engineer of the Group (Bureau), attended the event at invitation and delivered a presentation.

Xu Huaqing, Director of the National Center for Climate Change Strategy Research and International Cooperation, provided a comprehensive overview of China’s active participation in global climate governance and its efforts to enhance its Nationally Determined Contributions. Sang Shuxun, Dean of the Low-Carbon Energy Research Institute at China University of Mining and Technology, highlighted recent advances in China’s research on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies.

Jiao Sen delivered a keynote address on behalf of the Group (Bureau), titled “Promoting Comprehensive Resource Utilization, Supporting the Building of a Beautiful Planet, and Underpinning Energy Conservation, Emission Reduction, and Low‑Carbon, High‑Efficiency Development in the Geological Sector.” He systematically outlined the achievements of our Group (Bureau) in industrial transformation and upgrading during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, with a particular focus on sharing strategies for low‑carbon, high‑efficiency development in the chemical geology field. He proposed that geological support technologies to achieve the goals of peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality should be advanced through six key areas: intensifying exploration for critical chemical minerals; strengthening comprehensive resource utilization; integrating big‑data platforms with the exploration and development of new energy sources; conducting surveys and assessments of underground space resources in non‑metallic mines; promoting green exploration and smart mining; and accelerating the commercialization of innovative scientific and technological breakthroughs. Jiao Sen emphasized that, as the national team for geological work and ecological civilization, we must remain firmly committed to building the “Three Earths,” advance the green, low‑carbon development of China’s energy and resources, and contribute to the realization of the nation’s “30/60” carbon goals.

More than 80 participants, including senior leaders and staff from the Group (Bureau) headquarters, members of the leadership teams of all directly affiliated units, and relevant technical personnel, attended the meeting via video link at the sub-venue.
