In response to the national “Work Safety Month” campaign, and with the aim of strengthening safety awareness and enhancing safety skills, our institute’s laboratory conducted an emergency drill on the leakage of easily explosive hazardous chemicals on June 18.
Prior to the drill, all members of the laboratory convened a preparatory meeting. Gao Dong, Director of the Laboratory and the Logistics Service Center, outlined the significance of this exercise and provided a detailed briefing on the drill’s procedures, personnel assignments, and key precautions to be observed during the exercise.
This drill included a scenario on emergency response to the accidental spill of a small quantity of nitric acid. Following the procedures outlined in the “Emergency Response Plan for Laboratory Safety, No. 19, Chemical, Geological, and Mining Laboratory,” participants simulated the immediate response and handling measures to be taken upon the occurrence of such an incident. Participants unanimously agreed that the exercise effectively enhanced laboratory personnel’s occupational safety and health skills in their daily work.
Recently, our institute’s laboratory has upgraded its ventilation system and installed emergency eyewash and shower stations to mitigate the hazards posed by strong acids such as hydrochloric, nitric, and sulfuric acid, as well as heavy metals and toxic reagents. In addition, we have strengthened employee safety training through regular safety workshops and occupational health examinations, thereby safeguarding staff health.
