The Group (Bureau) has joined forces with multiple stakeholders to establish the Chahrhan Salt Lake Pilot-Scale Demonstration Base and the Coastal Zone Resource Utilization and Environmental Remediation Research Center.


Qarhan Salt Lake Pilot-Scale Test Base

  The “Qarhan Salt Lake Pilot Base” is jointly built by the China Chemical Geology And Mining Bureau and Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Co., Ltd., dedicated to advancing the research and development of technologies for the comprehensive utilization of low-grade salt lake resources, thereby supporting Qinghai in building a world-class salt lake industrial base.

  The overarching approach to development is to establish R&D centers in developed regions outside Qinghai Province, set up pilot-scale test facilities at the field site, and conduct industrial-scale validation in the process‑area. Building on our bureau’s scientific and technological innovations in salt‑lake resource exploration and development, we will construct a semi‑industrial pilot‑scale test base at the Qarhan Salt Lake, carry out intermediate‑level specialized trials, and, by providing the necessary funding, equipment, and technical support, mature these scientific and technological achievements and subject them to industrial‑scale testing. This will bridge the critical gap between research outcomes and productive application, enabling the commercialization and industrialization of these technologies and translating research into industrial production.

  The key construction tasks are as follows: 1) to ensure resource security for salt‑lake development and production; 2) to reduce costs, enhance quality, and improve efficiency in on‑site operations; 3) to develop high‑end products, increase product value added, and extend the industrial chain; 4) to elevate the comprehensive utilization of low‑grade resources; and 5) to integrate green and smart development. A robust research system will be established, spanning laboratory studies through semi‑industrial-scale testing, thereby creating a globally competitive incubation platform for salt‑lake resource development that prioritizes independent R&D while leveraging cutting‑edge domestic and international advances. This platform will accelerate pilot‑scale validation of fundamental salt‑lake research findings, facilitate the transfer and commercialization of these results, and support enterprise growth and the development of a world‑class salt‑lake industrial base.

Research Center for Coastal Zone Resource Utilization and Environmental Restoration

  The “Research Center for Coastal Zone Resource Utilization and Environmental Remediation” is jointly established by China Chemical Geology And Mining Bureau, the School of Ocean Sciences at China University of Geosciences (Beijing), and other institutions. It aims to build a platform for technological innovation and R&D in marine geology, thereby advancing the Group’s expansion into the marine geology business sector.

  The “Coastal Zone Research Center” has recently focused its research efforts on three main areas. First, it conducts surveys and studies on the exploration, development, and utilization of coastal zone resources in the Beibu Gulf. This includes comprehensive mineral resource assessments, the development of advanced industries for deep-processing and high-value utilization of mineral resources, pilot-scale desalination research, and the exploitation of marine chemical resources. Second, it undertakes investigations and restoration studies of the ecological environment in the Beibu Gulf coastal zone. These activities encompass geological and environmental surveys and monitoring of typical coastal zones and nearshore waters of the Beibu Gulf, assessments of environmental pollutants and related remediation projects, ecological surveys and restoration of wetland ecosystems, as well as investigations into carbon sequestration and carbon cycling processes at the sediment–water interface in coastal areas. Third, it carries out exploration and development studies of geothermal and other new energy resources in key coastal cities, providing technical support to local governments for the implementation of health and wellness tourism industries.
