The Group (Bureau)’s Third Science and Technology Innovation Conference has meticulously prepared 21 prominently themed promotional display boards.


  On July 28, the Group’s (Bureau’s) Third Science and Technology Innovation Conference was held in Hohhot. The conference featured 21 thoughtfully designed thematic display panels, highlighting the major scientific and technological achievements of the Group’s (Bureau’s) eight inaugural science and technology innovation teams, two National Quality Engineering Awards, one of the China Geological Society’s Top Ten Mineral Exploration Achievements for 2019, and ten “Geological Science and Technology Awards” presented by the Group (Bureau) for the 2020–2021 period. These panels were arranged in the lobby corridor outside the conference hall, inviting attendees and delegates to view and learn.

  Science and technology are the foundation of national strength, and innovation is the soul of national progress. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan period, our group (bureau) has vigorously implemented the innovation-driven development strategy, engaging in meticulous planning and systematic organization. By strengthening strategic guidance, bolstering foundational support, optimizing the innovation environment, and refining the innovation system, we have achieved a comprehensive enhancement in scientific and technological capabilities, yielding a series of significant scientific and technological breakthroughs. These achievements have provided robust scientific and technological support and assurance for building a leading enterprise in resource development and ecological conservation.

  In response to the Group’s (Bureau’s) industrial development needs, during the 2018–2020 period, eight science-and‑technology innovation teams were established, including the “Chemical and Mining Geological Environment Investigation and Research Team,” to tackle key core technologies that support the Group’s (Bureau’s) high‑quality development. These efforts have yielded a number of distinctive new theories, technologies, and methodologies, such as “Geological Environment Investigation and Assessment Techniques for Pyrite Mines,” “Key Technologies for Fluorite Mine Prediction and Evaluation,” “Exploration and Remediation Technologies for Heavy Metal Contamination in Riverbed Sediments,” “Selenium‑Enrichment and Cadmium‑Suppression Techniques for Selenium‑Rich, Low‑Cadmium‑Contaminated Paddy Fields,” “Deformation Correction and Reinforcement Techniques for Inclined Structures,” “New Multi‑Pile‑Plate Anchoring Technology,” “Three‑Dimensional Intelligent Information System for Geotechnical Engineering in Rail Transit,” and “Ore‑Forming Theories, Exploration, and Analytical‑Testing Technologies for Oil Sands.”

  In recent years, our group (bureau) has been awarded numerous National Quality Engineering Awards. This exhibition showcases two of these projects: the “Geotechnical Investigation for the Changsha Huaqiao Wastewater Treatment Plant Reconstruction and Expansion Project” by the Hunan Institute, and the “PPP Project for the Rapidization of Zhengzhou’s No. 107 Auxiliary Road” by the Henan Bureau. These projects have successfully addressed challenging technical issues in geotechnical investigation, provided scientifically sound recommendations for construction, and, while ensuring construction safety, minimized project costs to the greatest extent possible.

  One of the Chinese Geological Society’s Top Ten Mineral Exploration Achievements for 2019—the exploration of phosphate deposits at the Yanbian Shang mining area in Baokang County, Hubei—was showcased. A total of 590 million tonnes of phosphate resources were reported, including 43.49 million tonnes of high-grade ore with a P₂O₅ content of ≥30%.

  At the Group (Bureau) level, the “2020–2021 Geological Science and Technology Awards” recognized a total of 41 achievements, including two Special Prizes, 16 First Prizes, and 23 Second Prizes. This exhibition showcases two Special Prizes for Geological Science and Technology—“Research on Ecological Protection and Restoration of Territorial Space and Comprehensive Mine Remediation” and “Major Breakthroughs and Innovations in Prospecting for Phosphate Deposits in Southern China”—as well as seven First Prizes, such as “Survey of Important Non-Metallic Mineral Resources, Including Boron, Phosphate, and Fluorite, in Eastern China,” and one First Prize for Geological Exploration Achievement, namely “Detailed Reconnaissance of the Graphite Deposit in Dalazi Village, Linkou County, Heilongjiang Province.” The project “Research on Ecological Protection and Restoration of Territorial Space and Comprehensive Mine Remediation,” undertaken by the Institute of Geological Research, established the “Zunhua Model,” serving as a model and guiding example across the Group (Bureau) and ushering in a new phase in our Group’s (Bureau’s) efforts to carry out comprehensive land remediation and ecological restoration. Meanwhile, the collaborative effort among five institutions—the Group (Bureau), the General Institute of Geological Survey, the Institute of Geological Research, the Hubei Institute, and the Guizhou Institute—titled “Major Breakthroughs and Innovations in Prospecting for Phosphate Deposits in Southern China,” systematically summarizes the significant theoretical and practical achievements of our Group (Bureau) in phosphate exploration in southern China since 2000. Through advances in ore‑forming theory and technological innovation, a new mineralization model was developed and applied to guide prospecting, leading to major breakthroughs in deep‑seated phosphate exploration in areas such as central Guizhou and western Hubei, with an added phosphate resource estimate of 12.261 billion tonnes. This work has significantly advanced scientific and technological progress in the phosphate‑prospecting sector, yielding substantial economic and social benefits.
