From September 23 to 27, the fourth Geological Skills Competition of 2021, hosted by the China National Bureau of Coal Geology, was held in Hangzhou. The Group (Bureau) fielded a six-member team representing the Bureau, led by Chief Engineer Jiao Sen. The competitors included Shi Hao and Lü Qing from the Zhejiang Institute, Zhang Chengxin from the Geological Research Institute, Li Kekun from the Henan Bureau, Wang Shuai from the Shandong Institute, and Tian Fusheng from the Hubei Institute. Following intense competition, the Group (Bureau) was awarded the “Outstanding Organization Award,” while Shi Hao of the Zhejiang Institute received the “Third Prize for Individual Performance.”
This geological skills competition lasted four days and combined theoretical assessments with hands-on fieldwork, primarily evaluating the contestants’ foundational geological knowledge and their practical field‑working abilities. The Sinochem Group team remained composed and meticulous, delivering a performance that reflected both style and competence, and showcasing the solid professional expertise and strong theoretical grounding of its geologists. The event effectively served to train and prepare the team while enhancing their skills.
Pan Shuren, a member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the General Administration, attended the closing ceremony and delivered a speech. Drawing on numerous real-world transformation cases and his own years of professional experience, he outlined several concrete approaches for advancing geological work under the new development philosophy. Pan Shuren emphasized that all geological professionals must steadfastly prioritize the core geological business, enhance their core competitiveness, vigorously attract talent, upgrade equipment, build strong teams, and drive scientific and technological innovation. He also called for keeping pace with the times to promote the transformation and upgrading of geological work, leveraging the opportunities of the new era to deliver fresh achievements, expanding into new areas in response to emerging needs, and, guided by the “four alignments,” charting a new course for the future development of geological services.
This participation aims to implement the spirit of Zhao Ping’s 2021 “Quality Month” initiative addressed to all employees of the General Administration, as well as the guiding principles articulated by Shang Honglin at the Group (Administration)’s work deployment and mobilization meeting for the “Quality Month” campaign, thereby advancing the “Quality Month” activities in a solid and systematic manner and comprehensively elevating quality standards. Moving forward, the Group (Administration) will further promote the “craftsman spirit,” strengthen its technical talent pool, and motivate and inspire more technical personnel to enhance their professional expertise and innovative capabilities, thus comprehensively raising the Group’s (Administration’s) overall geological‑work technical level and core competitiveness.
