In the Year of the Tiger, we welcome blessings and bid farewell to the old year, striving to embark on a new journey.

To ensure the smooth execution of all tasks, our Institute’s Geological Survey Branch officially resumed work on the eighth day of the first lunar month. All departmental staff have reported for duty, and the technical personnel seconded to the Jinan Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning, the Gangcheng District and Pingyin County Bureaus of Natural Resources, as well as the Planning and Development Bureau of the Southern Mountainous Area Management Committee of Jinan, have also returned to their posts. Focusing on the department’s annual work plan, efforts are being concentrated on advancing the implementation of Jinan’s geological exploration plan and geological disaster prevention and control projects, thereby fully embarking on a new journey in 2022.

While cultivating and refining its presence in the Jinan local market, the department has also adopted a nationwide perspective, steadily and systematically expanding into geothermal markets beyond the province. At the beginning of this year, it successfully won the bid for the geophysical exploration project of geothermal resources in the Shangri‑La Economic Development Zone in Diqing, Yunnan. The project will conduct field surveys within the Shangri‑La Economic Development Zone to identify prospective geothermal target areas. By employing multiple geophysical methods, it will comprehensively assess the abundance and depth of deep‑seated hot water reserves and ultimately determine whether these geothermal resources hold development potential. Located at the junction of the deeply incised high‑mountain canyons of the Jinsha River and the river valley terraces, the site sits at a high elevation in a complex topography. Currently, the project team is actively overcoming numerous challenges and carrying out geophysical exploration activities according to schedule.

A new year brings a fresh outlook, and the Spring Festival ushers in new hopes. The Geological Survey Branch will remain true to the original aspirations and mission of geologists in the new era, stay firmly focused on its annual goals, and approach post-holiday resumption of work and production with the highest level of enthusiasm and dedication. It will strive to balance routine epidemic prevention and control with robust production and operations, ensuring that all tasks advance in an orderly manner, achieve outstanding results, and open up new prospects—thereby making fresh and even greater contributions to the development of the Shandong Institute and to the nation’s efforts to build an ecological civilization.
