Labor is the source of wealth and the source of happiness, as well as the fundamental driving force behind the progress of human society. In the course of Shandong Institute’s reform and development, it is the hard work and sweat of its vast workforce that have collectively forged an ever brighter future for the institute. Day after day, year after year, some remain steadfast on the front lines of projects, dedicating themselves with unwavering commitment to ensure smooth progress; others quietly embrace the ordinary, their modest yet fervent efforts illuminating every step of the organization’s growth. They all share one glorious and resonant name: “workers”! On this festival dedicated to “labor,” let us pay tribute to the unsung heroes at every post around us.
The Most Beautiful Workers Along the Belt and Road
The photo shows Zhang Xianfeng, a member of our institute’s project team for the pre-grouting works at the northwest wing return air shaft of the Dongtai Mining Area in Khammouane Province, Laos, conducting documentation and recording. Amid the ongoing global spread of COVID‑19 and a challenging, complex external environment, the Lao project team has risen to the occasion, steadfastly holding the line on the front lines. They have proactively overcome numerous obstacles—such as shortages of supplies, logistical challenges, and language barriers—to ensure the smooth progress of the project, leaving an indelible mark as dedicated workers in the pursuit of the Belt and Road Initiative.
A Tribute to the Veteran Geologists on the Front Lines
At the survey and construction site of the Hanyang Photovoltaic Project’s step-up substation in Wulian County, three drilling rig operators—Liu Mingrui, Shi Peili, and Wang Li—are working intently. All three are seasoned veterans, each with more than 30 years of experience in drilling operations. For over three decades, through wind, frost, rain, and snow, in scorching heat and bitter cold, they have remained steadfast on the front lines of exploration. Over those same 30-plus years, they’ve seen their youthful vigor give way to silver streaks at their temples; what has changed is the network of wrinkles etched by time, while what has remained constant is their unwavering passion for the geological sciences.
On the occasion of the upcoming May Day holiday, we extend our heartfelt respect to the veteran geologists who steadfastly hold the line!
Combat the epidemic, promote development
In the face of a severe resurgence of COVID‑19 cases across multiple regions since March, the Tai’an Geological Branch Office has taken proactive measures, effectively coordinating epidemic prevention and control with its core business. By mid-April, it successfully initiated field drilling operations for the urban geological survey project in Tai’an’s urban area—specifically, the section on geological investigation and evaluation of underground space. On the journey of forging ahead in the new era and embarking on a new征程, they are but a small reflection of the countless workers and strivers at Shandong Institute. Like them, there are many, many others who, through their labor, embody the value of life, showcase their unique brilliance, and “build” evidence of the new era’s development.
Though they toil in seemingly ordinary roles, each has shouldered responsibility, embodied the spirit of striving through their actions, dedicated themselves with painstaking care, nurtured their dreams with hard work, and composed their own extraordinary anthem through practical effort and relentless perseverance.
Labor is the most honorable, and striving is the greatest source of happiness! Once again, we pay tribute to every ordinary yet extraordinary worker around us!
