Technological Innovation Drives Development, Paving the Way for a New Era—Our Institute Held the 2022 Selection Meeting for Science and Technology Innovation Teams.

To accelerate talent development, fully leverage the leading role of scientific and technological innovation, promote industrial transformation and upgrading, and provide robust technological support for high-quality development, our institute convened the 2022 institute-level science and technology innovation team selection meeting on May 27. Eleven science and technology innovation teams and four research projects from various business units participated in the public selection process. Following on-site PowerPoint presentations, expert panel reviews of submitted materials, and a Q&A session with scoring, three teams—the “Key Technology Research Team for Geothermal Exploration under Complex Geological Conditions,” the “Key Technology Research Team for Iron-Rich Ore Exploration in the Thick Overburden Zone of Western Shandong,” and the “Remote Sensing Monitoring Technology Research Team for Soil Salinization in the Yellow River Delta”—were ultimately selected as institute-level science and technology innovation teams.

This conference convened an expert review panel comprising representatives from the Shandong Provincial Geological Museum, the Shandong Provincial Center for Territorial Spatial Ecological Restoration, as well as former leaders and senior experts of our institute, to ensure rigorous oversight and thorough evaluation. Jiao Sen, a member of the Party Committee and Chief Engineer of the Group (Bureau), along with Wang Deli, Deputy Director of the Geological Science and Technology Department, provided comprehensive guidance throughout the proceedings via video link.

Party Secretary and President Wang Qingfeng delivered a mobilization address, emphasizing that scientific and technological innovation capability is a key indicator of an organization’s overall competitiveness. Strengthening the development of innovation teams not only embodies the Group (Bureau)’s core value of “innovation-driven progress,” but also constitutes an essential requirement for propelling our institute’s high-quality development. He noted that this meeting is both timely and indispensable, urging all applicant teams to fully showcase their strengths, learn from one another through mutual exchange, humbly accept guidance, and continuously enhance their capabilities, thereby contributing their wisdom and efforts to the institute’s high‑quality development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.

Jiao Sen fully commended the Shandong Institute’s efforts in scientific and technological innovation and delivered a guiding address. He emphasized the need to deepen understanding of the critical role that technological innovation plays in underpinning high-quality development, to strengthen reflection on innovation initiatives, and to carefully synthesize and elevate the opinions and recommendations put forward by experts, while cultivating the ability to identify and resolve problems. First, we must adopt a problem‑oriented approach, pinpointing shortcomings in areas such as the level of attention given to innovation, the pool of top‑tier talent, the research environment, and the commercialization of research outcomes, and ensuring rigorous follow‑up and implementation to better align innovation with production needs. Second, we should be goal‑oriented: liberate our thinking, focus on market demands and customer pain points, and orient our innovation efforts around these priorities; build robust platforms for scientific and technological advancement, further strengthen existing ones, integrate resources and leverage industrial strengths to concentrate on core businesses and drive growth; broaden channels for research funding; reinforce talent development, unlock existing human capital, and expand the talent pool; and make every effort to secure diverse research projects, while ensuring effective project execution and quality management.

Chief Engineer and Executive Deputy General Manager (in charge of daily operations), Peng Mingzhang, delivered a concluding address, urging the thorough implementation of the spirit of the leadership’s remarks. He emphasized that the application materials should be revised and refined in light of expert feedback, while also positioning scientific and technological innovation as a key lever for driving production and operations—using production to fuel innovation and leveraging innovation to enhance production. Furthermore, he called for sustained increases in investment in scientific and technological innovation and for greater efforts to translate innovative成果 into practical applications, thereby fully harnessing the leading and catalytic role of such innovation in advancing high-quality development and continuously opening up new prospects for our institute’s science-and‑technology‑driven endeavors.
