Our institute meticulously organized participation in the Shandong Provincial Geological System’s “Yellow River Safety” emergency‑response skills training and competition.


To further enhance the capacity of geological‑system employees across the province to support ecological protection and high‑quality development in the Yellow River Basin, and to leverage the key technical role of the province’s geological workforce as a mainstay in monitoring and mitigating geological hazards during the flood season, on August 16, the Shandong Provincial Geological System Emergency Skills Training Exercise—jointly hosted by the Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, the Provincial Yellow River Administration, and the Provincial Bureau of Geological and Mineral Exploration and Development—was held at Dam No. 1 of the Niantou Control and Guidance Project under the Yellow River Administration. Our institute meticulously organized a six‑person team to participate in this training exercise.

This event brought together 40 teams from 18 units across the province’s geological system, comprising 196 elite participants, who trained in three specialized disciplines: emergency mapping, emergency geophysical exploration, and emergency drilling. Our institute was led by Deputy Chief Engineer Li Yinzhen, with Technical Director Wang Qinghua of the Mapping Sub‑Institute serving as the technical advisor. Four members, including Ji Shucheng, Director of the Mapping Sub‑Institute, participated as mapping team members in the emergency mapping training exercise.
This emergency mapping exercise emphasizes precision mapping and rapid response. By collecting and analyzing imagery data of geological hazard sites, it swiftly generates mapping products for sudden‑onset geological hazards and reports the findings to the command center, providing accurate geospatial information to support disaster‑relief decision‑making.

Leading the way, surveying and mapping takes the lead. Our institute’s four competitors prepared meticulously, carefully breaking down the technical specifications for emergency surveying and mapping, kept the competition guidelines firmly in mind, and arrived at the venue ahead of time to conduct pre‑flight checks and preliminary data processing, quickly getting into competitive mode. At the competition site, our team raced against the clock, maintaining composure and steadiness, successfully completing two flights and the associated data‑processing tasks, achieving strong results. Through this experience, they gained a deep understanding of the essence of emergency surveying and mapping, reinforced their sense of responsibility and mission to advance ecological protection and high‑quality development in the Yellow River Basin, and showcased our institute’s advanced capabilities in geographic information and surveying‑mapping technology.

Training on the battlefield, wielding cutting‑edge tools in the charge—only the brave can stand as champions. Although our institute did not secure a team ranking in this training exercise, the process enriched our professional experience, broadened our horizons and perspectives, and helped us identify gaps and areas for improvement. Moving forward, we will take this post‑specific training initiative as an opportunity to strengthen our sense of the bigger picture, reinforce our commitment to geological responsibilities, and rigorously hone our skills. We will further enhance our practical capabilities and professional competence in safeguarding the “peaceful flow of the Yellow River,” providing robust geological technical support to ensure the river’s stability and contributing to the ecological protection and high‑quality development of the Yellow River Basin.
