To comprehensively enhance our institute’s capacity for scientific and technological innovation, elevate the quality of technical management, achieve new successes in the latest round of mineral exploration breakthroughs, and support the institute’s high-quality development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, our institute convened a 2023 annual summary and exchange meeting on technical and quality management on December 27. More than 20 participants attended, including Chief Engineer Li Yinzhen, heads of the Geological Science and Technology Department, and technical leaders and core personnel from all departments under the institute.

Prior to the start of the meeting, Yang Chen, Chief Engineer at the Geological Survey Branch of our institute, was invited to deliver a specialized technical training session. Drawing on provincial‑funded projects such as “Three‑Dimensional Geological Modeling of the Shandong Region—Heze, Jining, and Tai’an” and “Perspective on Shandong: Development of a Three‑Dimensional Model for Major Mineral Deposits and the R&D of a Module for Assessing Overlying Mineral Resource Reserves,” Mr. Yang presented a vivid and insightful lecture covering the current state, methodologies, key considerations, applications, and future prospects of three‑dimensional geological modeling. Attendees listened attentively, gained valuable insights, and engaged in lively discussions and scholarly exchanges on the topics presented.
At the annual technical and quality summary exchange meeting, Liu Jianwen, Director of the Geological Science and Technology Department, reviewed the department’s technical and quality management efforts for 2023, conducted an in-depth analysis of issues identified in project quality management, outlined areas requiring improvement going forward, and laid out specific plans and arrangements for geological science and technology work in 2024.

Chief Engineer Li Yinzhen summarized and analyzed the institute’s annual work on scientific and technological innovation, providing an in-depth interpretation of the institute’s incentive mechanisms for patents and scientific‑technological achievements. She also laid out detailed plans for 2024, covering the establishment of a full‑process control system for project technical quality, the management of special funds for scientific and technological innovation, innovation‑driving incentives, the development of institute‑level chief experts, the operation of innovation studios, and the cultivation of a talent pipeline through mentorship and hands‑on training. Li Yinzhen emphasized that all departments must attach great importance to and substantially strengthen technical quality management. While ensuring smooth production and operations, they should deeply integrate technical quality control and scientific‑technological innovation with business activities, further standardize and institutionalize project‑level technical quality management, intensify efforts in scientific and technological innovation, and seize the opportunities presented by the new round of strategic initiatives to achieve breakthroughs in mineral exploration. In doing so, she called for continued progress in both technical quality management and scientific‑technological innovation, driving the institute to deliver even greater results and reach new heights.

Participants engaged in exchanges and discussions on our institute’s work in scientific and technological innovation and technical quality management. Drawing on practical experience, they identified existing problems and challenges in these areas and put forward constructive recommendations for the current stage of our institute’s technical quality management. Liu Jianwen, Director of the Geological Science and Technology Department, provided timely responses to participants’ questions and, in light of numerous technical and quality‑management measures issued by the China National Coal Administration, the Bureau (Group), and our institute, proposed follow‑up improvement plans and related measures covering field safety, technical quality, document archiving, and scientific and technological innovation. He emphasized the need to institutionalize and standardize technical management practices and ensure their effective implementation.
This conference served as both a summary and exchange session for our institute’s 2023 technical quality management efforts, and a strategic planning and kickoff meeting for 2024, fostering in-depth communication between the Geological Science and Technology Department and the business units. As a comprehensive “health check” of our institute’s technical quality management and scientific‑technological innovation, the meeting laid out a clear roadmap for effectively advancing our work in the next phase.
Going forward, our institute will increase investment in scientific and technological innovation, refine its systems for managing technological innovation and ensuring technical quality throughout the entire project lifecycle, further strengthen academic exchanges and technical training, and cultivate a team of highly skilled, cutting-edge professionals. These efforts will provide robust technical support and talent assurance, enabling us to achieve new breakthroughs in the next phase of mineral exploration and to advance the institute’s high-quality development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.
