Our institute convened a study and exchange seminar on the “Shandong Province Yellow River Ecological Corridor Protection and Construction Plan (2023–2030).”


Recently, the Shandong Provincial Government issued the “Shandong Province Yellow River Ecological Corridor Protection and Construction Plan (2023–2030).” According to the plan, Shandong Province will develop a multifunctional Yellow River ecological corridor that integrates ecological protection, cultural promotion, recreational tourism, and eco‑agriculture.

To systematically interpret and further master the key principles of the Plan, and to explore new approaches and directions for our institute in expanding its business in the Yellow River Basin, our institute organized a centralized study session and discussion involving chief engineers from all departments and core business personnel.

At the meeting, Chief Expert Yin Xiuzhen presented an interpretation of the “Shandong Province Yellow River Ecological Corridor Protection and Construction Plan (2023–2030),” covering its guiding principles, key tenets, strategic positioning, spatial distribution, objectives, and the direction of development for the corridor. Drawing on the practical realities of our institute’s work, she outlined three major areas of focus and ten specific types of projects that our institute can undertake. The three areas are: hydrogeological and environmental surveys; investigations and remediation of mining and soil contamination; and rural revitalization. The ten project types include: groundwater pollution assessment; geothermal resource exploration; biodiversity surveys; protection of geological park heritage sites; ecological restoration of mining areas; treatment of agricultural land contamination; prevention and control of soil salinization; investigation and evaluation of heavy metal contamination in bottom sediments; research on the utilization of coal-mining subsidence areas; and the development of distinctive small towns.

Participants thoroughly studied the entire content of the Plan and, in light of their departments’ project implementation status, engaged in in-depth discussions on the next steps for protecting and developing the Yellow River–adjacent ecological corridor, putting forward relevant recommendations. First, leveraging the Institute’s experience in conducting surveys of heavy‑metal contamination in sediment, they will actively seek to secure integrated management and restoration projects for watersheds such as Dongping Lake and the Dawen River. Second, drawing on the Institute‑level science‑and‑technology innovation team’s research topic, “Comprehensive Monitoring of Soil Salinization in the Yellow River Delta,” they will explore initiatives to restore degraded areas dominated by Suaeda salsa. Third, guided by the Plan, they will proactively identify priority areas of work, diligently collect and organize relevant data, and actively pursue project approval at provincial and municipal levels.

Chief Engineer Li Yinzhen delivered a concluding address, urging all to deepen their understanding of the Plan and, in light of our institute’s business areas, proactively advance our work with concrete results. He emphasized the importance of remaining guided by both pressing issues and market demand, leveraging our institute’s technological strengths to actively engage in efforts to reduce carbon emissions, curb pollution, expand green spaces, and continuously improve the ecological environment. He also encouraged identifying strategic entry points, vigorously pursuing the submission of key projects such as high‑quality development in the Yellow River Basin and the protection and construction of the Yellow River Ecological Corridor, and exploring diversified business models to create new drivers of economic growth.

In recent years, our institute has remained committed to serving Shandong Province while extending its reach nationwide, closely aligning with the national strategy for advancing ecological civilization. Within the province, we have undertaken more than a hundred geological‑environmental and ecological projects, including assessments of land quality, groundwater contamination, land subsidence, geothermal and shallow‑ground thermal energy resources, and geological hazard prevention and control. These efforts have enabled us to accumulate extensive practical experience, laying a solid foundation for our future participation in the Yellow River Ecological Corridor Protection Project.
