Recently, our institute convened a comprehensive evaluation meeting for its institute-level science and technology innovation teams, conducting an overall assessment of two such teams—the “Comprehensive Research Team on Soil Salinization Monitoring in the Yellow River Delta” and the “Key Technology Research Team for Geothermal Exploration under Complex Geological Conditions”—both established in 2022.

At the meeting, team leaders Yang Chen and Jiang Liping presented reports on team building, talent development, progress in achieving objectives and tasks, overall project outcomes, and the utilization of funds. Together, the two teams submitted two technical innovation research reports, obtained two invention patents and one utility model patent, and published one SCI‑indexed paper and one paper in a Chinese core journal.

This assessment meeting invited two veteran experts, Yuan Congjian and Gao Faxiang, to provide rigorous oversight. The expert panel engaged in thorough discussions with the team members on aspects such as the teams’ presentation content, achieved results, and existing challenges. They concluded that both teams possess distinct strengths, feature well‑structured compositions, and pursue clearly defined research directions; their outcomes are both practical and scalable, and they have played a leading role in fostering research projects, advancing scientific achievements, strengthening team building, and cultivating talent. At the same time, the panel encouraged both teams, while fulfilling their annual objectives, to continue conducting in‑depth research aligned with their respective priorities, further refine their innovative contributions, emphasize the timeliness and originality of their scientific work, elevate their research standards and the quality of their outputs, and enhance their capacity to deliver cutting‑edge scientific and technological services. Following the evaluation, both institute‑level innovation teams received overall ratings of “Excellent.”

Chief Engineer Li Yinzhen of the Institute fully commended the achievements of the two teams and set higher expectations for their next steps. First, the two teams should strengthen the systematic review, summarization, and comprehensive analysis of their existing work, distill key innovations, broaden their perspectives, select appropriate research topics, and deliver high‑quality results, while actively preparing to apply for designation as bureau‑level science and technology innovation teams. Second, they should fully leverage their leadership roles, seize the opportunities presented by the new round of the strategic action for breakthroughs in mineral exploration and Shandong Province’s plan for the protection and development of the Yellow River Ecological Corridor, integrate closely with operations, production, and project markets, and explore new frontiers in the ecological and environmental fields. Third, they must intensify efforts to tackle critical scientific and technological challenges—drawing on practical needs and feeding solutions back into production—to effectively enhance the capacity to translate scientific and technological innovations into tangible outcomes, thereby driving the Institute’s high‑quality development and contributing the collective strength of the teams to the new round of the strategic action for mineral exploration breakthroughs.
