In response to the national call to “strengthen domestic exploration and development of critical energy and mineral resources, and to increase reserves and production,” and in an effort to continuously advance breakthroughs in mineral exploration technologies, intensify efforts to discover new deposits, and steadily implement the new round of strategic initiatives for mineral discovery, our institute recently organized an academic training and exchange session titled “Key Priorities and Lessons Learned in Mineral Exploration under the New Round of Strategic Initiatives for Mineral Discovery.”
At the training session, Wang Juan, Deputy Director of the Mineral Exploration Institute, analyzed the current mineral‑prospecting landscape, presented the strategic achievements of Shandong Province’s previous round of exploration efforts, and, in light of the province’s 14th Five-Year Plan, systematically outlined the key areas and priority mineral types for exploration. Drawing on numerous case studies—including the Lanling Iron Mine, the Qihe High‑Iron Ore Deposit, the Qixia Gold Mine, and the Yinan Gold Mine—she examined the priorities and challenges of deep‑level prospecting and proposed a framework of approaches and methodologies for the next phase of breakthrough exploration. This training enabled technical personnel to gain a thorough and systematic understanding of the guiding principles, policies, work plans, and specific requirements underlying the new round of strategic mineral‑prospecting initiatives, broadening their perspectives and providing valuable guidance for future mineral‑exploration activities and the initiation of geological‑survey projects.
Following the meeting, participants engaged in lively discussions and exchanges regarding the strategic approach, key priorities, and future directions of the new round of the Mineral Exploration Breakthrough Initiative. Li Yinzhen, the Institute’s Deputy Chief Engineer, suggested that all departments strengthen comprehensive analytical research and proactively prepare project‑proposal documents for previously unexplored areas. In light of increased investment in mineral exploration from both central and local budgets, he urged leveraging local strengths and client relationships to actively secure projects and resources, thereby bolstering the Institute’s achievements in mineral prospecting. Vice President Peng Mingzhang emphasized that the new round of the Mineral Exploration Breakthrough Initiative presents both new opportunities and challenges. He called for a thorough understanding of relevant policies, full utilization of the Institute’s abundant geological‑survey expertise and extensive experience in mineral exploration, and seizing the opportunities of the times. Beyond focusing on exploration within the province, he encouraged the Institute to actively pursue projects in western China and overseas, taking concrete actions to achieve significant breakthroughs in this new phase of the initiative.
More than 30 technical personnel from the Jinan and Tai’an districts attended this training and exchange session.
