Focusing on Key Projects and Ensuring Quality and Safety—Our Institute Launches a Series of “2022 Annual Quality and Safety Inspections for Geological Projects” Activities


To further strengthen technical and quality management as well as safety management for geological projects, elevate the Institute’s overall professional and technical standards, and enhance frontline awareness of safety risk prevention, the Institute conducted a series of technical‑quality and safety inspection activities for its 2022 geological projects from July 13 to 28.

Led by the institute’s deputy chief engineer, an inspection team comprising the head of the Geological Science and Technology Department, as well as personnel responsible for technical quality management and safety oversight, conducted a combined review of both office‑based documentation and on‑site conditions. The team carried out document reviews for eight projects undertaken by seven departments and performed field inspections of quality and safety for four projects—such as the “Geological Environment Remediation and Ecological Restoration Project for Closed Open‑Pit Mines in Zichuan District”—which have been substantially completed.

At the site of the Taian City Urban Geological Survey Project, the inspection team, having assessed the drilling operations, addressed the issue of encountering underground karst cavities during drilling—where drill rods could not be retrieved and further penetration was impossible—by proposing a solution that integrates ground-based geophysical surveys and magnetic logging data to comprehensively delineate the depth and extent of the subsurface cavities, followed by the adoption of mud‑based borehole stabilization techniques. The team also put forward practical recommendations regarding on-site safety and identified existing challenges. Furthermore, they expressed full appreciation for the project’s standardized and complete original documentation, as well as for the safety of field operations and the overall quality of the technical work.

During an inspection of the abandoned mine remediation and restoration project in Panzhuang Village, Xiaoli Subdistrict, Zhangqing District, Jinan City, the inspection team reviewed the completed worksite, as well as the original documentation, construction‑process records, the operation of the quality management system, project progress, and field‑work safety. The team identified several issues, including the need for timely and orderly organization of original records, daily completion of construction logs, and prompt archiving of all relevant documents, and engaged in thorough discussions with the project team members.

At the site of the iron‑ore reconnaissance project in the Dulangkou area of Chiping District, Liaocheng City, members of the inspection team conducted random checks on the field geological data, gained a detailed understanding of the progress in completing the work scope, reviewed original records from geophysical surveys and drilling operations, as well as relevant self‑inspection and mutual‑inspection checklists, carried out a safety inspection at the active drilling site, and expressed full recognition of the project’s technical quality and safety management.

For this quality inspection, on-site inspection records have been duly maintained and signed by the head of the project’s department and the chair of the inspection team. Upon completion of each project’s inspection, the inspection team conducted an on-site handover with the project team, communicated identified issues and key points for attention, and instructed the project team to promptly address these findings in accordance with the inspection team’s recommendations and to submit a detailed rectification report to the Institute’s Department of Geological Science and Technology by the prescribed deadline.

This quality and safety inspection effectively exercised quality control over the implementation of each project, heightened the preventive‑control awareness of frontline staff, and provided robust quality and safety assurance for the successful completion of all projects. Moving forward, the Department of Geological Science and Technology will continue to strengthen technical quality and safety management and oversight, urging all project teams to enhance their technical quality‑management practices, prioritize on‑site construction safety, and ensure that each project is carried out on schedule, to the required standards, and in the specified quantities. By meeting the General Administration’s geological‑project quality inspections with high standards and superior quality, we will, through concrete actions, elevate the Institute’s work in geological technology, quality, and safety management to a new level, thereby supporting the Institute’s high‑quality development during the 14th Five‑Year Plan period.
