To accelerate talent development, fully leverage the leading role of scientific and technological innovation, promote industrial transformation and upgrading, and provide robust technological support for high-quality development, the Shandong Institute recently convened its 2022 institute-level selection meeting for science and technology innovation teams. Eleven innovation teams and four technology projects from various business units participated in the open selection process. Jiao Sen, a member of the Group (Bureau) Party Committee and Chief Engineer, attended the meeting via video link and provided comprehensive guidance throughout.
This conference convened an expert review panel comprising representatives from the Shandong Provincial Center for Territorial Spatial Ecological Restoration, the Shandong Provincial Geological Museum, and experts from the Group (Bureau). Through on-site presentations, document reviews, and expert questioning, the panel ultimately selected three teams as institute-level science and technology innovation teams: the research team on key technologies for geothermal exploration under complex geological conditions, the research team on key technologies for exploring iron‑rich deposits in the thick overburden zones of western Shandong, and the research team on remote-sensing monitoring technologies for soil salinization in the Yellow River Delta.
Jiao Sen fully commended the Shandong Institute’s efforts in scientific and technological innovation and delivered a guiding address. He emphasized the need to deepen understanding of the critical role that technological innovation plays in underpinning high-quality development, to strengthen reflection on innovation initiatives, and to carefully synthesize and elevate the insights and recommendations put forward by experts, while cultivating the ability to identify and resolve problems. First, we must adopt a problem‑oriented approach, pinpointing shortcomings in areas such as the level of attention given to innovation, the pool of top‑tier talent, the research environment, and the commercialization of research outcomes, and ensuring rigorous follow‑up and implementation to better align innovation with production needs. Second, we should be goal‑oriented: liberate our thinking, focus on market demands and customer pain points, and orient our innovation efforts around these priorities; build robust platforms for scientific and technological advancement, reinforce existing ones, integrate resources and leverage industrial strengths to concentrate on core businesses and drive growth; diversify channels for research funding; strengthen talent development, unlock existing human capital, and expand the talent pool; and make every effort to secure a wide range of research projects, while ensuring their effective implementation and quality management.
Wang Deli, Deputy Director of the Geological Science and Technology Department of the Group (Bureau), along with the leadership of the Shandong Institute and relevant officials from the Geological Science and Technology Department, attended the meeting.
