Reuniting once again! The same shade of “volunteer red” in two cities—our hospital’s volunteers are actively supporting community epidemic prevention and control.

　　Since March this year, COVID‑19 outbreaks have resurged in multiple regions across Shandong Province, and Jinan and Tai’an—where our hospital is located—have not been spared. In the face of this severe epidemic situation, conducting multiple rounds of rapid, citywide nucleic acid testing within a short timeframe is an indispensable and highly effective measure for swiftly winning this critical battle against the pandemic.
To support community epidemic prevention and control, numerous Party members and staff volunteers from our hospital have promptly registered with their local communities, stepping forward at the most critical junctures to stand shoulder to shoulder with community workers on the front lines of pandemic response, striving to safeguard the lives and health of the people.

Total service hours exceed 200.

　　Since the onset of this wave of the epidemic, our hospital’s Taian District base has participated in five rounds of nucleic acid testing. Li Gang, a Party member of the Fourth Party Branch and Director of the Taian District Logistics Service Center, took on his responsibility without hesitation, leading fellow Party members Pan Qingrong and departmental staff Chen Ran, Yu Songbo, and several other colleagues to promptly respond to the community’s call. Working hand-in-hand with members of the local “Taian Xiaomei Volunteer Service Team,” they actively supported the community in carrying out nucleic acid testing, accumulating more than 200 hours of volunteer service.
　　The residential area of the Taian District base is home to both employees of the institution and external tenants, resulting in a diverse and complex population. Prior to the start of the testing campaign, Li Gang, Pan Qingrong, and others intensified outreach efforts through various channels—posting notices, public announcements over loudspeakers, telephone calls, and door-to-door briefings—to ensure that every resident was promptly informed of the testing schedule and requirements. Many elderly residents live in the base’s family quarters, most of whom are retired staff members of our hospital. In response to the challenge faced by some seniors who are not proficient with smartphones and unable to present their mass‑nucleic‑acid‑testing QR codes, Li Gang and Chen Ran proactively provided in‑home assistance, helping them generate the codes and printing hard copies to hand to the elderly for easy presentation during testing. For high‑age residents with limited mobility, Yu Songbo led his team to conduct on‑site testing, ensuring that no one was missed in accordance with community guidelines. This thoughtful service earned unanimous praise from the senior colleagues.
On the day of testing, to minimize disruption to everyone’s work and daily life, the nucleic acid testing was scheduled from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. At 5:00 a.m., while most people were still fast asleep, four volunteers from our hospital had already joined other members of the volunteer team to set up the testing site. They then carried out their assigned tasks, helping maintain order on-site and guiding participants to complete the testing process in an organized and efficient manner.
　　During the pandemic, our hospital’s base staff maintained a rotating on-duty schedule at the base entrance, rigorously screening and verifying the body temperature, health codes, and nucleic acid test stickers of all entrants and exiters, thereby tightly controlling access to the residential compound and ensuring the safety of everyone entering and leaving the premises.

Two cities, the same “volunteer red”

　　In Jinan, like Li Gang and his colleagues, many Party-member employees have enthusiastically answered the community’s call to join volunteer efforts in epidemic prevention and control. Among them is Shen Wenhuan, a Party member from the Geotechnical Engineering Company’s Party branch, who promptly signed up as a community volunteer upon receiving the “De Xian Community Emergency Volunteer Recruitment Notice.” There is also Zhang Ling, an active applicant for Party membership in the First Party Branch, who, after work, dons a red volunteer vest and dedicates her spare time to lending a helping hand to the community. And then there is Zhang Peiwen, a dedicated retired Party member whose commitment remains undiminished despite retirement and stepping away from official duties.

　　Two cities, two parallel yet distinct timelines—yet united by the shared goal of winning the critical battle against the epidemic. Our dedicated Party-member employees, without hesitation, have all chosen to don the same shade of “volunteer red,” charging ahead on the front lines under the leadership of their Party organizations, standing together to safeguard our home. With selflessness and devotion, they have painted this spring of 2022 with its brightest, warmest hues.
　　All the peace and tranquility we enjoy today are made possible by those who shoulder burdens and forge ahead. With the pandemic still far from over, our hospital’s volunteers will remain steadfast in responding to the Party’s call, fully exemplifying their role as pioneers and models, and continuing to actively engage in community‑level epidemic prevention and other volunteer services. In doing so, they will help the nation win this critical battle against the pandemic at an early date, thereby demonstrating, through concrete actions, the exemplary spirit of our institution as a model unit of civility.
