On February 26, the groundbreaking ceremony for the northeast‑wing return‑air shaft of the 2-million‑ton‑per‑year potash fertilizer expansion project at the Dongtai Potash Mine in Khammouane Province, Laos, was solemnly held at the construction site. Our institute’s Lao project team was invited to attend the ceremony and presented a flower basket as a gesture of congratulations.
In recent years, Asia Potash International has been committed to developing the Dongtai potash mining area in Khammouane Province, Laos, into Southeast Asia’s largest potash fertilizer production and sales hub. To date, a 1 million t/year potash fertilizer production facility has been completed, with plans to expand capacity to 3 million t/year within three to five years. Currently, the 2 million t/year potash fertilizer project is fully underway, and the northeast‑wing return air shaft stands as a landmark construction milestone for this initiative.
From November 2021 to January 2022, our institute’s Lao project team carried out surface pre-grouting work at the return air shaft on the northeast flank of the Dongtai Mining Area. At the end of 2021, as the COVID‑19 situation in Laos resurged, the project team, despite the pandemic’s widespread impact and supply constraints, united as one and worked in close coordination to overcome numerous challenges. They completed the task safely, efficiently, and with outstanding results, earning high praise from the client.
The Lao project team was invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony, which not only represents the partner’s full recognition of our institute’s work but also serves as a powerful showcase for our overseas projects.
