Recently, Zhongnong International Potash Development Co., Ltd. presented the Laos Water Management Project Team of our institute with an Award for Excellent Construction and a letter of appreciation, fully recognizing the technical services provided by our institute.
The groundwater remediation project at the Dongtai Mine in Khammouane Province, Laos, is a long-term service agreement signed on October 15, 2013, between our institute and China Agricultural Potash Fertilizer Co., Ltd. The project’s primary scope involves developing practical, feasible water-control plans tailored to the actual underground conditions and carrying out the corresponding mitigation works. In 2021, the Lao Water‑Control Project Team completed several key tasks, including grouting reinforcement of the floor at elevations +12 m to –28 m along the ramp; grouting of the belt‑conveyor inclined shaft within a horizontal range of 0–65 m; treatment of dissolution damage at the base of the ventilation shaft; grouting of floor‑level dissolution defects between Car Shunting Chambers No. 4 and No. 6 along the ramp; surface pre‑grouting of the south‑wing intake ventilation shaft; surface pre‑grouting of the southwest‑wing return ventilation shaft; and surface pre‑grouting of the northeast‑wing return ventilation shaft. These remediation measures effectively eliminated potential hazards posed by subsurface dissolution voids, ensuring safe passage for vehicles and pedestrians in the mine tunnels. In particular, the work addressing dissolution at the base of the ventilation shaft received unanimous praise from the client, completely eliminating the risk of further dissolution at that location and establishing favorable drainage conditions for future ventilation‑shaft construction.
Over the course of nine years, our institute’s technical personnel stationed in Laos have earned the client’s recognition through their exceptional professional expertise and diligent work ethic. The letter of appreciation stated: “During the construction phase, your company’s project team collaborated closely with our Lao on-site staff, demonstrating unwavering dedication and hard work, thereby vividly embodying a spirit of professionalism characterized by a broad perspective, unity, and selfless commitment. Your company has also showcased its outstanding management capabilities and superior service quality.”
Effort never betrays those who are dedicated. At the 2021 Annual Work Summary and Awards Ceremony of Zhongnong Potash Fertilizer, the organizers commended the Shandong Geological Exploration Institute’s water-control team for their superb expertise and the remarkable results achieved in implementing their water-control plan, which successfully completed the assigned tasks. The institute was therefore awarded the “Excellent Construction Award” by Zhongnong Potash Fertilizer for its Lao water-control project.
